Grammys get two new categories

Recording Academy's Trustees approve changes

Just when it looks like there couldn't possibly be another Grammy category, the Recording Academy's trustees approve two new ones.

The Academy has split the Latin rock, alternative or urban album into two categories -- Latin urban album and Latin rock/alternative album -- while a zydeco or Cajun music album category has been added to the folk music section.

The additions bring the total number of Grammy categories to 110, as no categories are being dropped or combined.

The changes were approved at the annual meeting of the Acad's trustees, who voted in a new board. Producer Jimmy Jam was elected chairman of the board of trustees, jazz critic Neil Tesser was elected vice chairman and music publisher Richard Perna was re-elected secretary-treasurer.

Outgoing chairman Terry Lickona will become chair emeritus.
