Joel Hopkins ("Jump Tomorrow") will direct from his own script, in which a man down on his luck finds an unlikely female companion while in London attending his daughter's wedding. Hopkins penned the screenplay with Hoffman and Thompson in mind for the characters.
Tim Perell ("Shortbus") and Nicola Usborne ("The Best Thief in the World") will produce with Jawal Nga ("Forty Shades of Blue") exec producing. Hopkins and Usborne won a BAFTA award for most promising newcomer five years ago for their work on "Jump Tomorrow."
Hoffman and Thompson both starred in "Stranger Than Fiction." He's in the upcoming "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium" and Thompson will be seen in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."
"Last Chance Harvey" is the fourth project announced by Overture, launched late last year by Chris McGurk with backing from Starz and Liberty Media. Overture's business strategy calls for an annual slate of eight to 12 features with pricetags of up to $30 million, targeted to specific audiences.
Overture made its first acquisition in January by buying U.S. rights to "Ferris Wheel," with Charlize Theron. It's also in active development on "105 Degrees and Rising" with Echo Lake Entertainment and is in production on caper comedy "Mad Money" with Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes; Overture is co-financing and distributing.
