'Little Miss Sunshine' directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will be honored at the UCLA Director Spotlight Awards.

"Little Miss Sunshine" directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will return to their old stomping grounds June 12, when they will be honored as UCLA filmmakers of the year at the UCLA Director Spotlight Awards.

Dayton and Faris, both 1980 graduates of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, will be introduced by director Penelope Spheeris, a past collaborator and fellow alum.

In addition to honoring these two graduates, event will feature the works of seven UCLA student filmmakers as a way for these rising directors to present their work to the entertainment industry. Past Spotlight winners include "Sideways" director Alexander Payne and "Malcolm in the Middle's" Todd Holland.

Students' short films were chosen by a panel including Sundance Film Festival director Geoff Gilmore, director Hany Abu Assad, producer Cotty Chubb and documentary filmmaker Kirby Dick.
