Pic based on British TV series

BERLIN -- German producers Dan Maag and Thomas Reisser of Stuttgart-based Niama Filmproduktion are teaming with Paul Knight and Richard Carpenter on "Catweazle," a feature film based on the 1970s British TV series about a temporally displaced medieval wizard.

Directed by John Henderson, the German-British co-production recounts the magical adventures of the eccentric and irascible wizard Catweazle who, on the run from the invading Normans in 1066, accidentally travels through time to the present day. With the help of a farmer's son, Catweazle embarks on a quest to find out how to get back to his own time.

Set in the English countryside, pic will shoot on location in Britain and Germany beginning in September.

Pic is Maag and Reisser's second project following "The Red Baron," which Warner Bros. is releasing this fall.

Knight and Carpenter, who penned the original "Catweazle" series, also produced such hit series as "The Adventures of Black Beauty," "Robin of Sherwood" and "The Borrowers."
