Friedkin jumps to Paradigm

'Bug' director to serve jury duty 'On the Lot'

Director William Friedkin has signed with Paradigm. He had been repped by WMA.

Friedkin makes the rep change as his latest film, the Ashley Judd starrer "Bug," opens Friday through Lionsgate, and his controversial 1981 film "Cruising" gets a special screening today in Cannes before Warner Bros. releases it on DVD in fall.

The director said he's setting his sights on films with modest budgets and on continuing to direct operas, the last of which was "Salome" in Munich.

"I don't want to compete with the guys who are making these $500 million movies; I'd rather make low-budget films where I believe in the stories and can cast well, and where all the money goes on the screen and where visual effects aren't the main draw," he said.

Friedkin said he has also accepted an invite from Steven Spielberg to be a jurist in the horror film section of the reality show "On the Lot," and he has agreed to reteam with his "To Live and Die in L.A." star William Petersen to direct an episode of CBS' "CSI" next season.
