Rivalry heats up ratings

Subway Series a homerun for Yes

The Yankees-Mets rivalry took over New York during the annual weekend Subway Series, driving the ratings of the regional-sports Yes Network to a record 589,000 total viewers for Friday night's game.

Yes' rival SportsNet NY, which carries Mets' games, and which also carried the Friday live, drew another 470,000 viewers.

The game ended up harvesting more men 18 to 49 and 25 to 54 than any other TV show in New York on Friday, beating such programs as the season finales of NBC's "Law & Order" and CBS' "Numb3rs," and the premiere of "National Bingo Night" on ABC.

The previous high rating for a Subway Series between the Yankees and the Mets on one sports regional goes back to June 26, 1998, when the MSG network racked up 348,000 viewers.
