Pic is based on a novel written by Stoker's great grand-nephew, Dacre Stoker, and Ian Holt. Holt wrote the script. Production will begin in Eastern Europe late in the year.
The picture is a co-production between Ken Atchity's AEI and Jan De Bont's Blue Tulip Prods.; private financing is being raised through Europe. The film will shoot later this year in Eastern Europe.
The plot picks up 25 years after the original book that hatched the 1931 film.
The Stoker family endorsement is cosmetic, since the original book is in the public domain, but the sequel does have interesting ties to the original.
Atchity said plans are afoot to re-publish the original Stoker work in its original form. Half the book was edited out in the original publication, and some of the excised plot was incorporated into the sequel book and will be used as plot in the new film. New characters include Jack the Ripper and the infamous Madame Bathory.
Dickerson last tackled horror with Showtime's "Masters of Horror," and the films "Bones" and "Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight."
