Cheung expands Asia Disney duties

Move signals power shift to Shanghai

HONG KONG -- Stanley Cheung, the Mouse House's top man in China, will take on additional responsibility in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Company announced that Cheung, who has been with Disney for two years, has become executive VP and managing director of the Walt Disney Co. Greater China, covering China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Move is a concretization of the de facto position and growing shift of power within the region from Hong Kong to Cheung's base in Shanghai. Cheung has effectively been doing the Greater China job since the ankling last July of Asia Pacific exec VP Doug Miller. Role excludes responsibility for Hong Kong Disneyland.

"This new Greater China structure, headed by Stanley Cheung, will enhance integration and leverage operations across our lines of business to maximize business opportunities in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan," Andy Bird, prexy, Walt Disney Intl., said.
