National Lampoon gets Drunk

Company buys popular comedy website

National Lampoon has acquired the college humor Web site Drunk University (drunkuniversity.com) for an undisclosed price.

The 5-year-old site, which is moderated by current or former college comedy newspaper writers, attracts more than 5 million page views per month. It's been part of the National Lampoon Humor Network, a collection of humor Web sites.

Zach Posner, VP of corporate development, said the company plans to develop projects and is exploring a feature film project built around the brand.

National Lampoon recently purchased its first feature film, "Electric Apricot," a comedy about the jam band phenomenon. It's also planning a release this year for its first inhouse feature production, "National Lampoon's Bagboy," starring Brooke Shields, Dennis Farina and Larry Miller, as it moves into producing its own fully financed comedies.

Company's been involved in more than two dozen pics starting with 1978's "Animal House," usually through licensing.
