TV Academy to focus on digital

NBC Universal chairman of the board Bob Wright will chair the group -- known as the National Academy of Media Arts & Sciences. Group is open to members of the National TV Academy's 19 chapters.
"It has been clear to me for some period of time that we have converging technologies, and we need to figure out a way to get these people involved with us," Wright said. "This new group is a great way to connect with these people."
National TV Academy prexy-CEO Peter Price said the group "recognizes the new digital generation that has captivated our industry."
"Through the formation of this peer group, we will embrace our peers in the new media and broaden our membership to include television and media," he said.
NATAS and its rival Los Angeles counterpart, the Academy of TV Arts & Sciences, are currently engaged in a battle over whether and how to award broadband Emmys. ATAS declined comment regarding NATAS' new digital peer group.
