Summit moved quickly Friday night to acquire "Parental Guidance," a spec script by Melissa Carter and Stu Gibbs on which at least one other studio was bidding. Mandeville Films' Todd Lieberman, who's producing with David Hoberman, brought the project to Summit.
Romantic comedy revolves around parents who try and get their son back together with his old girlfriend after he brings home the fiancee from hell. "It completely fits the profile of what we want to do at Summit," said production prexy Erik Feig.
Summit is now looking for a director and thesps for the project, which Meredith Milton will oversee for Summit.
Feig said the company plans quickly to ramp up its productions and expects to bring in more projects to join "Parental Guidance" soon.
"Let's just say it's the first deal with new stationery," Feig said.
Summit principals Robert Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger plan to release and distribute 10 to 12 pics a year, including eight that will be inhouse productions (Daily Variety, April 20).
Carter penned "Little Black Book" and previously was a scribe for CBS series "Yes, Dear." Gibbs most recently sold pilot "Shooting Blanks" to ABC and Touchstone. He also wrote "Repli-Kate" and "See Spot Run" for the bigscreen.
