A teen heartthrob has to be seen by as many teens as possible. That's why DreamWorks and Paramount quickly appealed an R rating given to thriller "Disturbia," starring
Shia LaBeouf, a darling not only among the younger set but of
Steven Spielberg's as well.
Spielberg personally assisted in the ratings appeal, a rare occurrence. His most notable intervention, of course, was in 1984, for "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," which resulted in the creation of the PG-13 rating.
In the case of "Disturbia," a modern-day take on "Rear Window," Spielberg and DreamWorks won a PG-13 after agreeing to cut some of the more graphic scenes.
