Poirier weds Warners project

Phillips Co. to produce Russian bride film

Warner Bros. Pictures has hired scribe Mark Poirier to pen the untitled Russian bride project set up at Todd Phillips' eponymous production shingle.

Based on David Benioff's 2002 article "Goodbye to Romance," storyline revolves around a group of American men who travel through Russia searching for brides.

Poirier penned 2007 Sundance entry "Smart People," starring Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church and directed by Noam Murro. Miramax Films picked up the film at the fest.

The Todd Phillips Co. is producing through its first-look deal with Warners. Phillips is producer. Benioff, 3Arts Entertainment's Tom Lassally and Scott Budnick, exec VP of production at Phillips' shingle, are exec producing. Budnick and Annette Savitch brought in the project.

E. Max Frye penned an early script.
