"My life had been spent 100% on 'An Inconvenient Truth,' so we're really ready to hit the ground running," Bender told Daily Variety.
Bender said he was attracted to Overture by his longtime relationships with topper Chris McGurk and chief operating offer Danny Rosett along with recently hired Overture execs Sean Furst, Bryan Furst and Robert Kessel. He also cited Overture's business plan to focus on releasing eight to 12 pics annually with budgets of $30 million or less, aimed at specific audiences.
Bender's credits include "Pulp Fiction," "Reservoir Dogs" and the "Kill Bill" series. Under his Lawrence Bender Prods. shingle, he produced "Good Will Hunting," "Anna and the King," "The Mexican" and "A Price Above Rubies."
"Lawrence brings an invaluable pedigree, strong relationships with talent, directors, and writers, and a keen eye for making cost-effective, quality films," McGurk said.
Overture, a subsidiary of Starz and Liberty Media, made its first acquisition earlier this year by picking domestic rights to "Ferris Wheel" with Charlize Theron. It also recently announced its first production "105 Degrees and Rising," a Vietnam War drama co-produced with Echo Lake Prods.
