Brazil tunes in to Spanish cartoon

SBT picks up 'Lola and Virginia'

MADRID -- In pre-Mip TV deals, Barcelona-based Icon Animation licensed its best-selling toon series "Lola and Virginia" to SBT, Brazil's second-biggest broadcaster.

The toon series, turning on the title characters' tween rivalry, also has sold to Romania's Kanal D, Russia's MUZ TV and Ireland's Irish-language web TG4.

Nickelodeon already holds rights to France and Asia; Disney Channel has Spain and Italy. "Lola & Virginia" bowed in March 2006 on Stateside digital cabler Animania.

Icon and Millimages, which have divided distribution rights, are at the Mip TV mart.

Icon will be seeking various platform licensing deals, said distribution director Christophe Goldberger.
