Fremantle gets on 'Phone'

Gameshow played across city

CANNES — FremantleMedia has snapped up production rights to a Dutch reality show format called "The Phone."

The deal covers the U.S., major Euro territories, including the U.K. and Germany, Asia and Latin America.

Developed by Holland's Park Lane TV, "The Phone" is a gameshow in which two contestants compete via mobile phone in a race involving five clues across a major city to find a substantial money prize. A helicopter follows their exploits from the sky.

" 'The Phone' is a groundbreaking show offering viewers a movie-like experience from a reality gameshow," said FremantleMedia senior exec VP Rob Clark.

In other Fremantle developments on the eve of Mip, the company secured worldwide distribution rights to five docs from U.K. factual filmmakers Atlantic Prods. Deal includes "Superspy," the story of the FBI double agent Robert Hanssen.
