Greenberg psyched for bio

Hendrickson to adapt Kassorla's story

Former Universal exec Randy Greenberg has acquired feature rights to Dr. Irene Kassorla's biography "Miracle at Springfield Hospital" and hired Nancy Hendrickson to adapt.

Greenberg, former head of Universal Pictures' international theatrical division, will produce with Kassorla's daughter, Jackie Kassorla, a TV producer and host.

"Miracle at Springfield Hospital" centers on Kassorla's early career as the only female doctoral student at the U. of London's Institute of Psychiatry and her rehabilitation of a catatonic schizophrenic patient. She went on to become a pioneer in the field of discussing psychology on TV along with becoming an author of self-help tomes ("Go for It," "Putting It All Together," "Nice Girls Do").

Kassorla was frequently mentioned as Monica Lewinsky's therapist during the Ken Starr investigations in the '90s.

Hendrickson has won the Austin Film Festival's screenwriting competition, and a film based on her screenplay "In Defense of Carol Jean" is in pre-production, with Martha Byrne starring and producing.
