New Line picks up 'Latin Lover'

Comedy to be produced by Benderspink

New Line's getting involved with "The Latin Lover," buying a comedy pitch from Spanish movie star Santiago Segura and setting it up at Benderspink.

Benderspink's Chris Bender, JC Spink and Jake Weiner will produce and Segura will exec produce.

"The Latin Lover" revolves around two seasoned lotharios who place a wager on whether they can transform their country club janitor into a debonair playboy in an attempt to determine whether the art of seduction is an innate talent or something that can be taught.

Teaming is the second for New Line and Segura. The mini-major's already developing an Americanized remake of Segura's hit "Torrente," franchise with Benderspink producing and Mike Bender and Doug Chernack adapting..

Segura wrote, directed and starred in a trio of "Torrente" films, centered on a sleazy ex-cop. The pics -- "Torrente: The Dumb Arm of the Law," "Torrente 2: Mission Marbella" and "Torrente 3: The Protector" -- have cumed $61 million at the Spanish box office, representing the most successful comedy franchise in that market's history.

Benderspink's developing "Fiasco Heights" and "Eighth Wonder" at U, "Dirty Step Stomp" at the Weinstein Co., and "99 Problems" at Col.
