Trio off to races for 'Indianapolis'

Sports film to chronicle first 500-mile race

Writer-producer Terry Chase Chenowith and his Back Fence Prods. will produce historical sports pic "Indianapolis 500" for My First Bike Prods.

Justin Escue will direct and Angelo Pizzo ("Hoosiers," "Rudy") will pen the screenplay.

"Indianapolis 500" will center on the individuals who envisioned, planned and secured financing to build what's now called the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It will chronicle the running of the world's first 500-mile race in 1911, won by Ray Harroun.

Pizzo, Escue and Chenowith are all Indiana natives. "We all grew up with this race in our backyards," said Chenowith. "To Indiana natives it's like having the Eiffel Tower or Taj Mahal of racing in your backyard."

Chenowith's credits include "Undertaking Betty," "Shortcut to Happiness" and "Beautiful Dreamer." He's currently producing "One of Our Own," with producers Jack Robinson and Silver Tree, along with "Black Warrior's Curse."
