In the romantic tale, set in 1939, Adams will portray an American songbird who befriends a dowdy governess (McDormand) sent to her home by mistake. Based on Winifred Watson's novel, the pic will begin filming in the U.K. this week. Bharat Nalluri, helmer of HBO mini "Tsunami: The Aftermath," is directing.
Script was written by Simon Beaufoy ("The Full Monty") and David Magee ("Finding Neverland"). Nellie Bellflower and Stephen Garrett are producing. McDormand and Frank Frattaroli are exec producing.
Garrett is also exec producer of "Eastern Promises" for U's speciality arm.
Adams next stars as the princess in Disney's "Enchanted," a live-action/CG blend, and has the lead in the comedy "Sunshine Cleaning." She also co-stars in "Charlie Wilson's War" for Universal.
Adams is repped by Endeavor and The Firm.
