Michael Meredith, who wrote Wenders' 2004 pic "Land of Plenty," will direct from his own script.
Wenders also is attached as a visual consultant and will work closely with longtime d.p. Franz Lustig.
Movie is being independently financed. Former Miramax staffer Jordan Foley also is producing the pic, which could go into production as early as this summer in Louisiana and other parts of the South.
Meredith describes the project as "a love story-family reconciliation story" and says pic deals with "the nuclear American family that we all dream about but few of us have."
Movie centers on the adult son of a baseball legend who, together with his girlfriend, embarks on a road trip with his estranged father.
Former pro athletes such as Yogi Berra and Johnny Bench also could have walk-on roles in the movie, Meredith said.
The German Wenders ("Wings of Desire") has made several movies in the U.S., including "Paris, Texas" and the more recent "Land of Plenty" and last year's Jessica Lange starrer "Don't Come Knocking."
