Two-year, seven-figure pact comes just a week before ABC prepares to give birth to "Underbelly," a single-camera comedy that's getting a preview behind an original episode of "Grey's Anatomy." Deal reps Traub's first studio overall.
Should "Underbelly" snag another season, Traub will continue as exec producer and showrunner. If not, she'll begin developing new projects for WBTV.
"Underbelly" is Traub's first series, though she wrote two pilot scripts in 2005. Her other credits include gigs on "Kitchen Confidential," "Happy Family," "Spin City" and "Suddenly Susan."
When it comes time to develop, Traub said she hopes to create comic skeins that center around less than perfect people.
She said she loves flawed characters. "I think any show I'd create would have characters who didn't know what do do all the time or who weren't as likable as many people on TV," Traub added. "There are just more stories to tell when people are screwed up."
Traub isn't limiting herself to the half-hour format, either, counting FX's "Rescue Me" among her favorite skeins.
"Right now it seems it's easier to schedule hourlong shows, and part of me would like to try a dramedy," she said.
Traub got her showbiz start as a writers' assistant on "Mad About You."
