Schnabel to direct Myers film

Paramount brings on De Luca to produce

Mike Myers and Paramount Pictures are feeling the mojo, bringing Marco Schnabel aboard to direct Myers in his return to the bigscreen as the advice-dispensing Indian Guru Pitka.

Mike De Luca also has boarded to produce through his Mike De Luca Prods.

Project, previously untitled, was first announced last spring (Daily Variety, May 21). Hire signals Myers and Par are serious about moving ahead and are eyeing an '08 release. Myers penned the script with Graham Gordy. Story takes up as the eccentric guru is called in to solve a couple's romantic troubles.

Schnabel is no stranger to Myers, having been a protege of "Austin Powers" director Jay Roach. He was the second unit director on "Austin Powers in Goldmember," the last installment in the lucrative franchise, as well as a crew member on the first two pics.

Myers voices the lead in the "Shrek" movies, including this summer's "Shrek the Third," but his last appearance onscreen was in "The Cat in the Hat," released in 2003. "Goldmember" was released a year earlier.

Myers has been quietly practicing and honing the character of Pitka through a series of stages shows in Gotham, appearing in an all-white robe and sporting a fake nose and beard.

De Luca most recently produced "Ghost Rider" and has just begun production on the Robert Luketic-directed "21" for Columbia Pictures.

Schnabel is repped by Creative Artists Agency and 3 Arts Entertainment. Myers also is repped by CAA.
