At least that's what execs at E! Entertainment Television are hoping. Cabler has snapped up the rights to "Katie and Peter," the ITV celebreality skein starring model Katie Price and crooner Peter Andre.
Net will begin airing the first of at least 22 segs on April 21, pairing the show with "Girls Next Door."
Largely unknown in the U.S., Price and Andre are staples of Blighty celeb culture. After finding solo success, the two became even more of an item after falling in love on the U.K. skein "I'm a Celebrity! Get Me Out of Here."
That romance led to more TV exposure via a trio of "Katie and Peter" skeins that chronicled everything from their engagement to the birth of their first child together. Skeins, from Can Associates and Spun Gold, got the attention of E!'s U.K. offices, according to Cyndi McClellan, senior VP of programming strategy and research for the net.
"We realized that this a really fun couple, and they really gave (producers) all access," she said. "In the U.S., it's getting a little harder to get the full access to a celebrity's lives."
McClellan said E! had been talking about importing "Katie and Peter" before NBC announced plans for its own comedy-based skein starring David and Victoria Beckham.
That deal, however, "made us more excited about this show," she said, adding that a number of British celeb couples are looking to break into the U.S. market via reality shows.
"If they're going to become more U.S-based (figures), we'd love to know that they were born through E!," McClellan said.
E! is still deciding whether to air the "Katie and Peter" segs as half-hour or hourlong episodes.
