Using the Equus Media Development Fund, the Kopelsons paid high six figures for "The Tanglewood," a pitch for an otherworldly fantasy.
Deal follows their preemptive acquisition of the Geoff Watson-Adele Griffin spec "The Alchemy Papers," also bought through a fund that enables them to buy projects without having to get permission from a studio.
The Kopelsons were keeping the pitch plot under wraps, but it's got a big-ticket premise similar to that of "Killing on Carnival Row," which New Line is expected to put in production later this year. Latter fantasy thriller takes place in fictitious city the Burgue, where fairies, a group of beautiful winged prostitutes who live among humans and other creatures, are the victims of a serial killer who murders them for their blood.
