CBS scores Sunday victory

Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

With a nice boost from the conclusion of an NCAA men's college basketball tournament game in the opening half-hour of primetime, CBS cruised to victory in key demos on Sunday.

Preliminary Nielsen nationals for the Eye are somewhat sketchy due to a roughly 38-minute hoops overrun, but the net looks to have prevailed among adults 18-49 in six of Sunday's eight half-hours. "60 Minutes" should come in with about a 3.3 rating/11 share in adults 18-49 and 12.8 million viewers overall, with the net also solid with "Amazing Race: All-Stars" (roughly 3.3/9 in 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall) and original episodes of dramas "Cold Case" (roughly 3.6/9 in 18-49, 14.0 million viewers overall) and "Without a Trace" (3.5/9 in 18-49, 13.5 million viewers overall).

Fox and ABC battled for second-place scraps, with the former led by firstrun episodes of "Family Guy" (4.2/10 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall), "The Simpsons" (3.3/10 in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall) and "American Dad" (3.3/8 in 18-49, 6.6 million viewers overall). For the Alphabet, original episodes of "America's Funniest Home Videos" (2.3/8 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (4.2/11 in 18-49, 12.0 million viewers overall) did well enough, but the net struggled with repeats of dramas "Desperate Housewives" (2.2/5 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall) and "Brothers & Sisters" (1.7/4 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall).

At NBC, the finale of "Grease: You're the One That I Want" failed to register a ratings spike (1.9/5 in 18-49, 6.8 million viewers overall), but the net picked up some from 9 to 11 with a repeat "Deal or No Deal" (2.7/7 in 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall) and a new "The Apprentice: Los Angeles" (2.7/7 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: CBS, 3.6/10; Fox, 2.8/8; ABC, 2.6/7; NBC, 2.1/6; Univision, 1.3/4; CW, 0.7/2.

In total viewers: CBS, 12.9 million; ABC, 7.8 million; NBC, 7.0 million; Fox, 5.6 million; Univision, 2.9 million; CW, 1.6 million.
