'Welt' wins Austrian prize

Pic deals with teen angst

BERLIN — Jakob M. Erwa's feature debut "Heile Welt" won the grand prix for best Austrian film at the Diagonale fest in Graz, an event dedicated to Austrian pics.

Produced by Novotny & Novotny Filmproduktion, "Heile Welt" follows a group of teens grappling with the complexities of adolescence.

Peter Schreiner's "Bellavista," which examines an isolated enclave on the Italian-Austrian border, was named best documentary.

Cinematography kudos went to Bernhard Keller for feature "Fallen" and to Jo Molitoris for docu "It Happened Just Before."

The newly introduced Diagonale audience award went to Mirjam Unger's "Vienna's Lost Daughters," about eight women of Jewish descent who were forced to flee Vienna at the outbreak of World War II.

Oliver Neumann's feature "Immer nie am Meer" and Alarich Lenz's docu "Meine liebe Republik" took the editing prizes.
