Blunt queen for King film

Actress crowns 'Victoria'

Emily Blunt, who made waves Stateside with her performance in "The Devil Wears Prada," is set to star in "The Young Victoria."

Graham King's Initial Entertainment Group and Martin Scorsese are producing.

Filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallee ("C.R.A.Z.Y.") will direct the historical pic chronicling the turbulent early years of Queen Victoria's rule and her romance with Prince Albert.

Academy Award-winning scribe Julian Fellowes ("Gosford Park") penned the script, while Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson introduced the project to King. No studio is yet attached.

King said Blunt is "perfect to play this feisty, passionate young woman who went on to have nine children with the love of her life, Prince Albert."

Blunt has a busy dance card. She'll be in theaters next month with "Wind Chill." She's also in Mike Nichols' "Charlie Wilson's War." Upcoming as well are Sony Pictures Classics' "The Jane Austen Book," "The Great Buck Howard" and indie pic "Sunshine Cleaning."Along with King and Scorsese, Ferguson and Tim Headington are attached as producers. Denis O'Sullivan is overseeing the project for IEG.

Through his deal with Warner Bros., King is producing the upcoming Johnny Depp starrer "Shantaram" with Depp shingle Infinitum Nihil and Plan B. Also with Infinitum, King is producing "Sasha's Story: The Life and Death of a Russian Spy," based on the story of Alexander Litvinenko, who was poisoned with polonium.
