Wood lends voice to Acker animation

Connelly, Glover, Reilly also cast for cartoon

Focus has tapped Elijah Wood to voice the character 9, the lead rag doll in Shane Acker's post-apocalyptic toon of the same name.

Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau and John C. Reilly also will lend their voices to the production, an expan-sion of Acker's Academy Award-nominated short.

Scripted by Pamela Pettler, toon is being produced by Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov and Jim Lemley.

Besides Wood's 9, the rag doll community includes a domineering war veteran (Christopher Plummer), an aged inventor (Landau), brave warrior (Connelly), mechanic (Reilly) and visionary (Glover). Each character goes by a numeral.

Besides the Oscar nomination, Acker's "9" short won the gold medal at the student Academy Awards and animated film hon-ors at the 2005 Comic-Con.

Bekmambetov and Lemley also are teamed on "Wanted," Universal's live-action adaptation of a graphic novel. Bekmambetov will direct the Angelina Jolie starrer, and Lemley is producing along with Marc Platt, Jason Netter and Iain Smith (Daily Variety, March 20).
