Just for Laughs, Muse to develop TV shows, films

Just for Laughs, which runs the eponymous Montreal comedy festival, and Muse Entertainment Enterprises have pacted to create Just for Laughs Muse Comedy Prods. to develop and produce scripted comedies for film and TV.

First project up will be "O'Cannabis," a film set in an imaginary Canada where marijuana has been legalized and farmers are suddenly the country's wealthiest people.

"We can hardly wait to brighten people's days," said Muse CEO Michael Prupas.

Team includes Just for Laughs prexy Gilbert Rozon, chief operating officer Bruce Hills and exec Evi Regev, who will oversee project development.

Muse VP of development and distribution Jesse Prupas will develop projects with Regev.

Just for Laughs and Montreal-based Muse had previously partnered on skein "The Tournament," a mockumentary about crazed parents and their long-suffering hockey-playing kids. It aired on CBC in Canada and OLN in the U.S.
