New play by Albee, called "Me, Myself and I," bows in January 2008 in a production helmed by McCarter a.d. Emily Mann in the theater's 360-seat space. Plot follows identical twins whose sibling rivalry hits exitenstial extremes.
Later in the season, Mann writes and directs a Chekov adaptation, "A Seagull in the Hamptons," preeming in May on the same stage. Also running in the theater's smaller space is "Stick Fly," a seriocomic tale about a family by Lydia Diamond, who adapted Toni Morrison's "The Bluest Eye" for a production that played Chicago and New York last season.
"Argonautika: The Voyage of Jason and the Argonauts" is the latest foray into Greek myth -- this time the story of the golden fleece -- from Zimmerman ("Metamorphoses"). Production, which preemed in Chi in 2006, is set for March 2008 on the McCarter's 1100-seat mainstage. Before that, Moliere's "Tartuffe," directed by Daniel Fish, will run in that space this fall.
An under-90-minute train ride from Gotham, the McCarter regularly produces or presents productions that have life beyond New Jersey. Recent offerings to make the jump to Broadway include "Anna in the Tropics," "Translations" and the upcoming "Radio Golf," which lands on the Rialto this spring after its Princeton run.
