Alternative duo in at Fox

Simonian, Loren join studio

Fox TV Studios is expanding its alternative department, bringing aboard Andrew Simonian and Rachel Loren.

Simonian has been named vice president of alternative development, while Loren -- who'd been set up at the shingle under an overall producing pact -- will now segue to the executive side, serving as director inside the department.

Simonian and Loren will report to exec VP of alternative development Holly Jacobs, who announced the hires Tuesday.

Jacobs said the duo were "both incredibly passionate people who love the form and take unconventional paths to uncovering new ideas and talent."

"As FTVS' alternative division continues to expand, and produce different genres of programming for both broadcast and cable, it's critical to build a strong team of creative executives with different sensibilities," Jacobs said.

Simonian previously worked at the Gurin Co., where he handled the creation, acquisition and sales of formats as vice president of development. Before that, he worked at the William Morris Agency, in the tenpercentery's alternative TV department.

As for Loren, the exec sealed an overall deal with Fox TV Studios in 2006. Before that she was based at VH1, where she produced shows such as "Where Are They Now?" Her other production credits include "America's Next Top Model," "Stage Moms" and "Dr. Phil."

Fox TV Studio's current alternative output includes the CW's upcoming "Crowned," VH1's "Dice Undisputed," E!'s "The Girls Next Door," Fox's "Talk Show With Spike Feresten" and Discovery Channel's "Surgery Saved My Life."
