Bowen will play a popular high school senior who discovers that a boy with whom she had sex has HIV. After discovering that she carries it as well, she finds her life has changed as panic and gossip spread through her school.
Longform also stars Jennie Garth ("Beverly Hills 90210") as a teacher who befriends Rachel and reveals that she also has quietly been carrying the virus for several years, while Eric von Detten ("Complete Savages") plays the boy who transmitted the disease to Bowen's character. Von Zerneck-Sertner Films is producing for Lifetime.
Telepic is set to bow in June on the cabler.
Besides her stint as Julie Mayer on "Desperate Housewives," Bowen's credits include "Nip/Tuck," "One Tree Hill" and "Law & Order." She's also appeared several times on Broadway, beginning her career at age 6 in "Les Miserables."
"Consequences" is exec produced by Bob Sertner, Frank Von Zerneck and Nancey Silvers, who also wrote the screenplay.
"According to the Office of National AIDS Policy, two young people in the United States are infected with HIV every hour of every day," said Sertner, explaining his motivation for producing the film. "That number is astounding and reinforces the need to educate today's youth that AIDS is still out there and can be easily spread regardless of who you are, or how well you think you know the person you are with."
The movie's stars also have shot a public service announcement that will air following the film. "Consequences" is the latest in a long line of awareness-raising movies at Lifetime.
