Star Jones is joining Court TV as executive editor and host of a daily live daytime talkshow to preem later this year.

Jones, who was dumped from ABC's "The View" last spring, started her television career on Court TV in 1991 as a Brooklyn prosecutor commenting on the rape trial of William Kennedy Smith.

The show, which has yet to be named, will take on crime and justice stories linked to news and pop culture.

"The public is fascinated by the intersection of the legal world and the pop-culture world, and we hope to tap into that fascination as part of our overall strategy to broaden the appeal of the network's daytime lineup," said Turner Entertainment president Steve Koonin.

Jones joins former prosecutor and victim's rights firebrand Nancy Grace as one of the biggest names on the network.

Deal marks Jones' return to TV after being forced out of "The View" last spring amid an acrimonious split with Barbara Walters, her co-host for nine years. Before "The View," Jones was a correspondent for "Inside Edition" and NBC's "Today" and "Nightly News."
