Golden Village has room for 'Anna'

Singapore company to distribute pic

HONG KONG - Singapore's exhibitor/distributor Golden Village has signed to be the local distrib for "Anna & Anna," a romantic thriller with an unusually pan-Chinese pedigree for a Singapore venture.

Pic is helmed by Hong Kong writer-director Aubrey Lam ("Twelve Nights") and stars Hong Kong actress Karena Lam with co-stars Chinese thesp Lu Yi and Taiwanese male model Tender.

Pic wrapped Monday after a six-week shoot in Singapore and Shanghai.

Story involves a businesswoman who switches lives with her ex-boyfriend's new wife.

Budget is high by Singapore standards, at $2 million. "Anna" is predominantly funded by entrepreneur Tony Teo's Hong Kong and Los Angeles-based Ascension Pictures, and uses no Singapore's subsidy coin.

Pic is co-produced by Singaporean TV boutique PIP Prods., making its first feature movie.

Golden Village plans to release the pic in early fall. International sales are being handled by Hong Kong- and Beijing-based Lotus Entertainment.

Teo and Ascension produced yet-to-be-released "The Gene Generation," a cyber-thriller helmed by Pearry Reginald Teo that stars Faye Dunaway and Bai Ling. Lensed last year, "Gene" is being targeted for a July preem.
