Landmark lifts Mundorff

Exec will now oversee all theater operations

Landmark Theaters has upped Ted Mundorff to chief operating officer for the expanding arthouse chain.

Previously senior VP film and advertising, Mundorff will now oversee all theater operations for the exhib owned by Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner. Exec, head film buyer for the past four years, has already been involved in the development of new sites.

Among the locations in the offing: a 12-plex adjacent to the Westside Pavilion in West L.A., skedded to open its doors in June, followed by a seven-screen location in Baltimore and a six-screen theater in Denver. The Westside Pavilion location will feature reserved seating, valet parking, a wine bar and concierge service.

Arthouse chains are facing increased competish from major exhibs like AMC, Pacific and Regal, which want a piece of the growing specialty film biz and have been adding upscale amenities as an enticement to that crowd. Pacific Theaters' ArcLight location in Hollywood has had great success with its reserved seating. Shari Redstone's National Amusements, meanwhile, is expanding its Cinema De Lux chain of theaters offering concierge service and dinner and movie specials.

Mundorff, a 20-year exhibition vet, came to Landmark from Pacific, where he pushed for a hybrid of mainstream and arthouse fare at locations like L.A.'s the Grove.
