Littleton assumes the title of deputy editor for news development; Thompson becomes deputy editor at Variety.com. They will contribute both as editors and columnists, with their work appearing online and in print across the spectrum of Variety media products.
Littleton has been serving as editor of the Hollywood Reporter and Thompson as deputy film editor.
"Variety is delighted to welcome two important new voices to our organization," said editor-in-chief Peter Bart. "Cynthia and Anne are two of the most knowledgeable and respected editors covering media and entertainment. Their talents will provide a powerful force in furthering Variety's initiatives both online and in print."
Bart added: "Variety.com is developing a voice that is separate and distinctive from those of Daily Variety Gotham, Daily Variety or Variety. Littleton and Thompson will play a pivotal role in nurturing this distinctive content."
Littleton worked as a television reporter and editor at Variety from 1997-99. She has also worked as a reporter for Broadcasting & Cable and as a correspondent in the Los Angeles bureau of United Press Intl.
From 1996-2002, Thompson headed up Premiere's L.A. bureau as West Coast editor. Thompson teaches the fall semester of Sneak Previews at UCLA Extension.
