Schweiger chases 'Noearsbunnies'

Project picks up $1.2 million

COLOGNE — German thesp Til Schweiger is preparing his fourth project as director and producer, romantic comedy "Keinohrhasen" (literally, "Noearsbunnies").

Pic, about a womanizer forced to do community service in a kindergarten, is being produced by Schweiger's shingle Barefoot Films.

Schweiger will appear in the pic, with Nora Tschirner in the femme lead.

Regional funding agency Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg has awarded the project $1.2 million.

The funding org has allocated $6 million to a number of projects, with the largest amount, $1.3 million, snatched by a TV adaptation of "Treasure Island."

The classic will be helmed by Hansjoerg Thurn for web ProSieben.

Big screen projects announced by Medienboard include Miriam Dehne's drama "Little Paris," Lars Buechel's kids pic "Secret Agent Emma Panther," and thriller "Ambush," which is based on a script by Nigerian writer/director Chike Bryan Nnamani.

Separately, Bavaria's film funder FFF Bayern has allocated north of $10 million in its March session for 12 productions, plus 17 projects in pre-production.

Recipients include the next pic by Oscar winner Caroline Link, "Im Winter ein Jahr" (based on the novel "Aftermath" by Scott Campbell), along with history drama "John Rabe," child soldier biopic "Feuerherz," and family pic "Lilli the Witch."

FFF also announced a new project by Sven Unterwaldt, who directed the box office hits "Seven Dwarves" and sequel "Seven Dwarfs: The Forest Is Not Enough."

For "U 911," Unterwaldt has joined up with another popular comedian, Atze Schroeder, in the role of a sly black market dealer at the end of World War II.

Also, FFF gave coin to TV event-movie "The Fall of the GDR," a contemporary history drama in two parts about the events that led to the opening of the East German border in 1989.
