The debut feature of director John Barker of Dog Pack Films, “Bunny Chow” was shot quasi-documentary style in black and white for just $150,000. Title refers to a local street food in which curry is served in a bread bowl but is also a metaphor for the melting pot of cultures in Johannesburg.
DV8 Films’ sales entity Deviant Selling, together with MTV Films Europe, is handling worldwide sales.
“Bunny Chow” has screened at Toronto and the AFI fest in Los Angeles and opened November’s Sithengi World Cinema festival in Cape Town, where Barker was honored as best new director. It opens in South Africa on March 9.
