Mazursky to direct 'Catskill'

Elias' play world preems March 9 in L.A.

Paul Mazursky will helm the world premiere of Michael Elias' play "The Catskill Sonata," which opens March 9 at the Hayworth Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

Story takes place in the late 1950s at a Catskills resort where many of the guests have been victimized by the blacklist. Lead character is a failed writer who dispenses advice about everything -- especially sex and writing -- to a local boy working as a bellhop for the summer.

Elias, a former comedian, wrote the screenplay of "The Jerk."

"The Catskill Sonata" will play Thursday through Saturday and run through April 14.
