Helmer Michael Grossman has been tapped to direct the two-hour episode that will serve as the pilot for ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff.

Seg, dubbed "My Favorite Mistake," marks Grossman's second visit to the "Grey's" set in the past year. He directed the show's 13th episode of the season, "Great Expectations."

Helmer's other credits range from segs of "Charmed" and "One Tree Hill" to sci-fi skeins including "Star Trek: Enterprise," "Angel," "The Invisible Man" and "Dresden Files."

"My Favorite Mistake" will serve as Grossman's broadcast-net pilot directing debut.

Seg, whose plot remains shrouded in secrecy, will set up the possibility of Dr. Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh) leaving Seattle Grace Hospital. It will also introduce Hector Elizondo ("Chicago Hope") as Mr. Torres, father of Dr. Torres (Sara Ramirez).

ABC hasn't confirmed an airdate for "My Favorite Mistake," but it will serve as the show's 22nd and 23rd episodes of the season (out of 24).

Grossman is repped by Thrive Entertainment and KSGB.
