IFC will bow on Apple's iTunes store with library films such as Forest Whitaker starrer 'American Gun.'
IFC is joining iTunes.
The film division of Rainbow Media on Wednesday became the fourth studio to start selling pics on Apple's digital content store. It's launching with 13 films that are nominated this year or are previous Independent Spirit Awards, including Forest Whitaker starrer "American Gun" and post-9/11 drama "Sorry, Haters."
Like Paramount and Lionsgate, IFC will sell pics for $9.99 only when they are in the DVD library window, because Apple's pricing for new releases conflicts with the wholesale price for DVDs.
Disney, in which Apple CEO Steve Jobs is the biggest individual shareholder, is the only studio selling new DVD releases on iTunes.
IFC has been one of the more aggressive indies when it comes to new platforms and distribution methods; company has gotten significant attention for First Take, a day-and-date label that will release some 24 movies per year simultaneously in theaters, on DVD and on cable TV.
However, First Take pics won't be available on iTunes until they hit the DVD library window.
