Goeckner new top lawyer for MPAA

Legal eagle new general counsel for org

The Motion Picture Assn. of America appointed Gregory P. Goeckner as its top lawyer on Friday.

Goeckner has been serving as acting general counsel since last August and has managed the org's legal department. He joined the MPAA in 1994. His experience includes combating piracy domestically and internationally as well as litigating a range of entertainment industry issues.

"Greg has played a central role in nearly every important issue we have faced as an organization and an industry, including the digital transition and Grokster decision," MPAA topper Dan Glickman said in a statement. "As our industry continues to work through an ever-changing landscape, Greg's legal expertise and sound judgment will be critical to our success."

In addition to overseeing the work of MPAA staff attorneys and outside counsel, "Goeckner will also continue to supervise the activities of the title registration bureau and serve as counsel to the Classification and Rating Administration," the org said.
