Weintraub cruises to comedy

Family laffer takes place on a cruise ship

Jerry Weintraub's Warners-based Jerry Weintraub Prods. has purchased an untitled comedy pitch from scribes Charlie McDowell and Eli Jorne out of its own discretionary development fund.

Broad family laffer takes place on a cruise ship, though the specific storyline is being kept under wraps.

McDowell, a semi-pro surfer-turned-filmmaker, is a graduate of the American Film Institute's directing program. Jorne, who has been a contributing writer on Comedy Central's "Crank Yankers," attended AFI's screenwriting program.

Duo co-wrote the short film "Bye Bye Benjamin," which has been on the fest circuit.

Weintraub's upcoming slate includes "Ocean's Thirteen" and "Nancy Drew: Murder in the Hollywood Hills."
