Directed and produced by Sander Francken, the pic focuses on the causes and effects of both the legal and the illegal trade in small arms and argues the need for an international strategy in the fight against illicit weapons.
According to United Nations statistics, 650 million small arms are circulating around the globe and 8 million new ones are added each year. There is no legally binding treaty that controls the trade in small arms.
The EU is trying to push the issue of humanitarian disarmament.
"Dealing and Wheeling in Small Arms" had its Dutch theatrical preem on Jan. 4 and was previewed at last year's UN Conference on Small Arms in New York. Pic is being sold at the EFM and is repped by Holland Film's Claudia Landsberger.
