Weinsteins take 'Step'

Bender, Novick, Spink to produce 'Dirty'

The Weinstein Co. is kicking in for "Dirty Step Stomp," snapping up Steve Basilone & Annie Mebane's spoof and setting it up with Benderspink.

Project will spoof such dance pics as "Dirty Dancing," "Save the Last Dance," "Step Up" and "Stomp the Yard."

Chris Bender, Mason Novick and JC Spink will serve as producers.

Basilone and Mebane are playwrights by trade. She wrote "She Always Told Me" and they co-authored "Bill Pullman Hates You," which will soon run in the Los Angeles area. Basilone's a contributing writer for several magazines.

Benderspink has "Bob the Musical" set up at Disney, "Burt Dickinson: The World's Most Powerful Magician" at New Line and has just wrapped "Killers," directed by Chris Moore, for Element/Lionsgate.
