Sony PCL launches digitizing service

DCP converts pics, videos into digital data

TOKYO -- Sony PCL, a Sony subsidiary that develops HD and other technology, has launched a new service for digitizing content, including pics, for digital theatrical projection. Service starts this month.

The Sony PCL Digital Cinema Package (DCP) production service converts pics and videos shot onto analog into digital data, based on Digital Cinema Initiatives (DIC) specs that have become the standard in Hollywood.

Using digital technology developed for HD production, Sony PCL will convert film and HD video tapes to both 4K (4096x2160 bit) and 2K (2048x1080 bit) picture sizes. The company will offer support services from the set to the projection room, to make sure that filmmaker's original vision makes the transition to digital form.
