Gere, Lane reteam in 'Nights'

'Unfaithful' co-stars reunite for WB film

The "Unfaithful" duo of Richard Gere and Diane Lane will reteam in "Nights in Rodanthe," a Warner Bros. adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks romance novel.

Village Roadshow Pictures is boarding the pic as a co-financier. Pic is on track to begin shooting in late May.

Denise Di Novi is producing. Alison Greenspan will exec produce. Ken Hixon and Anne Peacock penned the script.

Deals are near done for Gere and Lane, who previously played a couple in the Adrian Lyne-directed "Unfaithful" in 2002.

In "Rodanthe," Gere will play a doctor who is traveling to reconcile with his estranged son. On the way, he checks into an inn in a North Carolina beach town. There, he has a life-changing romance with a woman who's trying to decide whether to stay in her unhappy marriage.

"Rodanthe" is the third Sparks adaptation for WB and producer Di Novi, after "A Walk to Remember" and "Message in a Bottle." Sparks scored a hit with "The Notebook."

Gere next will be seen playing Howard Hughes' bogus biographer Clifford Irving in the Lasse Hallstrom-directed "The Hoax."

Lane just shot the John Madden-directed "Killshot" for TWC and the Doug Liman-directed "Jumper" for New Regency. She's about to start production on the Gregory Hoblit-directed thriller "Untraceable" at Sony.

Gere's repped by ICM, Lane by Endeavor and Hyler Management.
