Capitol sets top executives

Trink named president; Kempler new COO

Jason Flom has upped his two top deputies at Virgin Records to similar posts within the freshly formed Capitol Music Group.

Lee Trink, Virgin's general manager and an exec VP, has been named president and Jeff Kempler, who guided Virgin's business affairs and business development activities, has been tapped chief operating officer.

EMI created the Capitol Music Group last week by merging Capitol Records and Virgin Records and named Flom chairman-CEO of the group.

Trink worked with Flom at Lava Records, which Flom founded, and joined Virgin in January 2006, soon after Flom took over the label. At Virgin, Trink was heavily involved in the breaking of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, KT Tunstall and 30 Seconds to Mars.

Kempler, who joined Virgin in October 2005, most recently was executive VP at the label. Prior to Virgin, Kempler was general counsel and senior VP of business & legal affairs for Atari; before that he held a similar title at Universal's Island Def Jam Music Group.

Both execs will report to Flom.
