The partnership kicks off with the release of soccer doc "Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait," which is available to download via web subscription service Lovefilm, which also powers film downloads from AOL.
On its theatrical release in the U.K., "Zidane," Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno's artful homage to French soccer legend Zinedine Zidane, attracted plenty of media interest but proved too cerebral for mainstream auds.
Negotiations also are underway to make available Artificial Eye library titles, such as Michael Haneke's "Hidden," said Arts Alliance spokesperson Kate Pidgeon.
Under the initial three-year agreement, Arts Alliance will be responsible for digitizing, encrypting and delivering the Artificial Eye movies directly to the customers of Lovefilm and AOL.
Arts Alliance offers content from Universal Pictures, Sony, Warner Bros., Momentum, Icon, Fremantle, Tartan and Discovery Networks, among others.
